A New Zealand radio jingle featuring the voice of a cartoon kid singing about getting a slap and swearing has had a complaint upheld.

New Zealand Radio Jingle Controversy

The radio jingle in a commercial for Hampsta NZ Ltd. featured a cartoon kid singing “Christmas is supposed to be the best day of the year but all I got last Christmas was a clip around the ear (ow!).” and then went on to include the line “Now when we get to Christmas life won’t be a bitch” according to the New Zealand Herald.

The New Zealand Advertising Standards Authority received a complaint that said they were “shocked” to hear the word “bitch” in a radio advert especially on easy listening radio station Easy Mix.

The complaint was upheld.

The new set of Halifax radio adverts for 2010 feature a fictional radio station with parody radio jingles to sell their banking products.
